The Rose’s Thorn Is More Than a Name
So why The Rose’s Thorn?
Because I am the rose. And I am the thorn.
I am the beauty my grandmother taught me to grow, and the sharp edge I had to develop to survive. I am soft. And I am strong. I am a mother. And a survivor. An artist. And a storyteller. A creator of whimsy. And a truth teller of the ugliest things a child should never experience.
This blog will be more about resilience than trauma. It’s about what happens after the ashes but the fire wont be ignored or buried in the dirt. It’s about creating even when your hands shake. About raising daughters with joy when most of what you were given was survival. About making something sacred from scraps. Rose is also a family last name and my birth months flower. It represents the more joyful and beautiful stories of the life’s garden. While the thorn represents the dark stories, the parts of us and what we have experienced that we would prefer not be there but must to protect the rose.
It’s also about the kids who never got to come home and the kids who didn’t have the best home to come home to.
It’s about choosing to keep growing, even when the world says you should be a statistic.
It’s about pressing your story into the earth and watching something bloom.
